The inverse of what Nic just brilliantly outlined is the Poisonous Statement "that's not your job"
Finding a tribe is hard when you do a bit of everything. Milly has created a wonderful space where Generalists can congregate and bump (nicely) together.
Milly has created an awesome community with maximal care placed on the user experience. It's like being in a cozy clubhouse where everything is taken care of for you!
A lot of Generalists make good leaders and managers, so create or have paths available that allow them to move into those types of roles if they show an aptitude for them.

This is the best resource out there for generalists looking to craft a job search or career exploration. It's helped me untangle my web of wide-ranging experiences and hone in on my strengths.
I love the practical aspects of the Guidebook and the templates provided. I like the initial reflection step of understanding your generalist profile instead of diving straight into CV writing mode!
1. Got to talk to and meet more people interested in a variety of things like me (like business building, reading, community building, AI - the mix is deelish) 2. The energy - super warm and friendly generally

I'm truly so excited that you guys have created this. Job searching has been a major stressor so any type of framework for better understanding myself, my skillset, and what type of role/industry I'm looking for is HUGE

You are keeping human-centred professional connection alive. This week, I went to a Melbourne "networking" event that said it really wasn't one, and it was telling the truth. I had deep, philosophical conversations; gave and received helpful career advice; and there were kind compliments being said all across the room.
I love the growth mindset percolating through every corner of the community, with questions, support, and knowledge sharing becoming almost like oxygen in our little tank. While I interact with maybe 10% of the content and offerings, I appreciate the variety of options to engage, find accountability buddies, receive guidance and give back.

Did you catch Nikita's Generally Curious episode? Here's a visual breakdown 👇 Listen in: lnkd.in/eyC4Wmtt 💛 S/out to Rohab Aamir for the awesome visual!
Cried real tears because of how beautifully Milly, Lindsey, and the GW team are articulating what exactly I feel, but never quite pinpointed!! So inspired by the Generalist World team, who are doing something amazing, amazingly well. Thank you!!!
Every time `I've posted in GW for help, the help I've received has been 100%. Shoutout to you all! I haven't had a single call in this community that I left feeling 'why did i do that to myself?'. Lots of awesome, kind, smart, and interesting people in here!

@hvSocrates There’s room for generalist to thrive in any industry! @MillyTamati is doing some very cool stuff with Generalist World.
Meeting others in the community willing to help, also sometime sharing something out loud to a group can give you a different prespective about how you've been approaching something. I learnt that perhaps I've been thinking a little too narrowly on the 'One-Liner" - you can have a few (!) Also plan to watch back as there were some great nuggets of advice in there!
Generalist World is a network of systems thinkers whose career paths have defied linear norms. This welcoming, international community has a wealth of wisdom, optimism, advice, and curiosity. In the few days that I've been a part of the group, I have already found greater career clarity and confidence than I have had in years.

The GW Job Hunt Guidebook is the resource I wish I had when I was last on the job hunt. I struggled for a long time to craft a narrative around my career journey and clearly articulate the unique value that I bring to organizations. Now I have a much better understanding about how to design my CV and portfolio to attract the kinds of organizations that I want to work with.
I've been through so many career pivots and I'm not one 'thing' - very much an Operator who has worked in lots of different environments. Generalist World is one of the few places were this is both normalised and celebrated. There's always someone in there who is willing to help, lend an ear or experielmnet alongside you. Generalist World is one of the best communities I'm a part of.
I think just knowing that we are different and that they have to account for those differences and treat us as individuals. Learn what we can do, understand our strengths/weaknesses and really nurture them. The outcome will be worth it.
Generalist World is home to some of the best people on Earth. And it all starts with Milly. Her positive flame ignites a friendly and inclusive community. Through GW I have met brilliant people and embraced my own generalist tendencies.
I joined the community to finally find like-shaped people with whom I share the same trait of not fitting in prevailing specialist standards. 'I am not alone!' reaction is popular among community members, so I am not alone expressing it :)
Generalist World is full of some of the kindest and smartest people on this internet. The community is eager to help each other and share knowledge in a thoughtful and intentional way. Best and most helpful Slack community I've ever joined!
Consider them for cross-functional opportunities/promotions that come up - don’t rely on a linear growth plan. trust that they will learn any skills needed quickly and your org will be better for having more well-rounded leaders in the company
I'd say clear expectations. As a generalist I can take something any number of ways, and understanding what the desired outcome is incredibly helpful, for example to not get too strategic on something that just requires an action plan to get it moving.
The only thing that ever worked in my managing imposter syndrome was reframing it - not as something I'm not good at, but as something I'm learning to do and will improve. I still occasionally struggle from that fear/anxiety, but nowhere near how I used to.
As a generalist, I've built two companies with me as a leader and enjoyed the multiple management responsibilities. I would add that balance for all the myriad of assignments coming the generalists way is an essential element in having a generalist on your team.
If you are feeling low in the job search, take some time to reflect on your 'greatest hits'. Think about all the things you are most proud of in your career (and life more broadly). Remind yourself that you have incredible talents to offer, and the work of the job search is to find the right fit between you, the right role, and the right company.
To say I was inspired after joining Generalist World would be an absolute understatement. Watching Milly build Generalist World from the ground up for the last few months, being completely transparent and sharing her blueprint and process, combined with her intentional community design has been incredible. A place where all generalists feel welcome.
I joined Generalist World because of Milly's enthusiasm for changing the narrative around being a Generalist - a cause I wanted to experience. But I stayed because of the community itself. It feels large but intimate at the same time and it's great to meet other people just as squiggly as you doing great things. It's been a great source of inspiration and learning!
My favorite thing about being part of the community is getting to meet like-minded people from around the world as I navigate my career transition from being a law firm lawyer to a generalist in the startup world. The people in this community are incredibly generous with their time and advice, and it has been so wonderful to also be able to help others in a similar boat.
During my career, I've always felt like a strange duck with my multi-disciplined non-linear career. Finding Generalist World is like finding the right pond with all amazing duckies. It's so great to have found people who know how you fly. Who aren't afraid to give honest feedback and who aren't afraid to branch out and make the most of their career. Best decision ever!
As someone who has always defined themselves as a Generalist, it feels incredible to be part of a truly GLOBAL community that understands the unique super powers we all possess. I check Generalist World every day to learn and be inspired from others like me. IN FACT - I sourced a contractor for my start-up through GW! Could not recommend this pocket of the internet enough 💜
